Government Officials barred from foreign trips over coronavirus fears

The Federal Government on Tuesday barred all government officials, including public and civil servants, from traveling abroad.

The Presidential Task Force on Coronavirus reported the decision after a closed-door meeting in Abuja.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who is also the chairman of the committee, said the ban takes immediate effect.

The federal government on Tuesday inaugurated presidential task force to monitor the development of COVID-19 pandemic across the nation and the globe.

Mustapha, who inaugurated the task force, said the composition of the board would enable Nigeria in its bid to adequately tackle the scourge.

He stated: “Actions taken by governments in different parts of the world point to the fact that COVID-19 constitute a major threat to mankind and requires that our reaction must be firm, scientific, methodical and strategic.”

The task force has a six month to ponder on its terms of reference.
