ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has sacked its Resident Electoral Commissioner REC in Cross River state, Dr. Frankland Briyai for utilizing her premises not to report his abdication, however to proclaim his joining the All Progressives Congress APC and challenging for the approaching governorship race in the state.
Festus Okoye, INEC ational Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee declared this in an announcement Friday in Abuja.
“While it is the privilege of any Commissioner or authority of the Commission to leave his or her arrangement and join any ideological group of his/her decision and hope for any office or position, INEC glares at the utilization of its premises or offices for any political reason as this is unlawful and as opposed to the Code of Conduct bought in to by the entirety of its authorities.
“Following his statement, the Commission has soothed Dr. Briyai of his obligations as a Resident Electoral Commissioner and pulled back all forces appointed to him. Thusly, the Administrative Secretary of Cross River State has been coordinated to regulate the workplace and assume control over the capacities and obligations of the REC until further notice”, the commission said.
As indicated by INEC, Dr. Briyai had on Thursday tended to the Media such that he has surrendered his situation as REC with impact from eighth August 2019 and joined a Political Party on whose stage he means to challenge the November 16, 2019 Governorship Election in Bayelsa State.
The announcement said in spite of the fact that this was done at the Commission’s Cross River State office in Calabar, it was at this point to get any correspondence on this from Dr. Briyai.
