Following heavy criticisms from Nigerians, Salihu Yakasai has now been released by the Department of State Services (DSS).
A family member confirmed his freedom Monday night.
“Alhamdulilah. My brother @dawisu is out. Thank you all! #freedawisu,” Abdullahi Yakasai tweeted.
The former aide to Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, was arrested after he asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign.
Yakasai made the call last Friday after the abduction of hundreds of schoolgirls from the Government Secondary School in Zamfara State.
Nigerians and organisations condemned his arrest.
In reaction, DSS said he was not in custody over his tweet recurring kidnappings.
