Edo State Government gives update on reported case

The Edo State Government has given updates to allay fear of residents over a suspected case of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the state.

The government said there is no affirmed instance of COVID-19 in any part of the state.

This was contained in an announcement signed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okundia on Friday.

He said the only suspected case that was introduced to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, (UBTH), has tested negative to the infection.

The Commissioner stated, “This is to bring to the information on the great people of Edo State that the suspected case with COVID-19 that was introduced to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) yesterday, had his sample specimen sent to the Virology Research and Testing Centre in Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Irrua.

The result of the test came out negative.

“This is to ease the fear of an outbreak of Corona Virus Infection in Edo State. If it’s not too much trouble note that there is no case of Corona Virus in Edo State.”
